Every year, several thousand Paul Mitchell Future Professionals from all over the country gather for this once in a lifetime educational experience designed just for them.
Held at Disneyland in California, this educational event featured hands-on classes with top stylists as well as inspiring motivational speakers like John Paul DeJoria, Winn Claybaugh and Tim Story.
“We are so proud of the 10 visionary Future Professionals who earned their way to this outstanding event! This really is an extraordinary opportunity for them to further their skills as well as start their career off right,” said Sharon Riser, co-owner of The Temple.
Below is an inside look at some of the magic from this year’s Caper event:
The Temple Annapolis: A Paul A Paul Mitchell Partner School was pleased to welcome Gary Spellman Co-Founder of Ultimate Face Cosmetics as a guest artist this past February.
“We’re thrilled to be able to offer this caliber of guest artist to our Future Professionals! Gary and the team of Ultimate Face Cosmetics bring them a wealth of knowledge on makeup artistry and the entertainment industry.” said Sharon Riser co-owner of The Temple Annapolis.
During his visit, Gary guided Future Professionals through the unique experience of being an on-set makeup artist and lead a live hands-on makeup jam session.
“The experience Gary Spellman gave us here at The Temple Annapolis gave us a little taste of what to expect in the real world, as well as the structure we’ll need to be successful. Gary is awesome and I’m thankful for the encouragement and words of wisdom,” commented Future Professional Shavion Rich-Brown.
“I agree. It was a great experience, very hands on and he taught us about the realities of Hollywood and working on movie sets” said Future Professional Nairi Andonian.
Future Professionals and staff from The Temple: A Paul Mitchell Partner School recently donated their time and talents as part of Discovery Communications & TLC’s Say Yes To The Prom program, a nation-wide effort to make prom dreams come true for nearly 800 underserved and academically high-achieving students across the country.
“From the beginning, we knew that Say Yes To The Prom was special and that we wanted to be a part of this opportunity. Giving back is the foundation of what we do at The Temple: A Paul Mitchell Partner School. The effects of this effort go beyond simply one night in these teenager’s lives – it creates lasting change,” said Sharon Riser, co-owner of The Temple.
Local teens selected from area high schools were invited to the Discovery Channel’s headquarters in Silver Spring, Maryland for a day of shopping and pampering to get them ready for a prom night they will never forget. Each participant was paired with a Discovery employee who served as a prom-consultant, personal shopper and style assistant throughout the day, and who ultimately will become a mentor beyond the event.
“My overall experience at The Say Yes To The Prom Dress event was extraordinary. I am a huge fan of the wedding series and Monte Durham, so to have been able to be selected to participate in such a special day was great,” said Special Wade, admissions team member. “Just to see the looks on the students faces as they walked through the doors of Discovery Channel was priceless! I was able to style the hair for a couple of very deserving young ladies and I aided in helping them select hair pieces that went along with their overall special look. Our team worked really well together with providing hair, make up and men’s services for all the students and worked diligently with keeping everyone on schedule.”
One of the highlight’s of the event was the opportunity to work with Monte Durham of TLC’s Say Yes to the Dress. He was also on hand throughout the day to ensure his personal touch was given to every ensemble before each girl said “yes to the prom dress.”
“A truly amazing experience!” said Lisa Mooney, Future Professional. “This event provided top of the line prom dresses, tuxedos and accessories for deserving high school youth. One participant told our team that she would have never been able to purchase any of these things without Say Yes To The Prom event. I felt truly blessed to be a part of the Paul Mitchell Temple team!”
Say Yes To The Prom made stops in Los Angeles, Miami, New York City, Chicago, and Silver Spring, Maryland.
